On April 21, the 14th “Battle of Orchestras” took place on the stage of the October Palace, in which NAOFI and the Odessa City Orchestra came together in the battle. According to the results of the spectator voting, “battle” ended with the triumph of the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments (NAOFI) with a result of 872 votes against 270 votes for the Odessa City Orchestra.

Friends, we want to share with you the emotions and impressions after the 14th “Battle of Orchestras”, which took place in the October Palace on April 21.
According to the results of the voting, “battle” ended with the triumph of the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments (NAOFI) with a result of 872 votes against 270 votes of the Odessa City Orchestra. “Battle of Orchestras” is not just a show or a competition of musicians, it is the union of more than 100 musicians, conductors of orchestras, soloists, masters, spectators into a single space where “Her Majesty the Music” reigns and the love of her for all who were present in the hall. The audience of Kyiv was expecting many surprises from the Odessites, and NAOFI prepared a new musical program.
The beginning of the “battle”, as always, began with the “Author’s Tour”. Opened the show star guests – rock band Numer 482, who just returned from London and Kateryna Kuziakina – a virtuoso young drummer. Together, they performed the song “Good Morning Ukraine “, after which the atmosphere of this holiday reigned in the hall with the excitement of expectation and premonition of joy that was characteristic to the event. The second issue was the execution of NAOFI’s author’s work, “Ukrainska viazanka”, by composer Yuri Alzhanev. The Odessa City Orchestra played “Karelo-Finnish polka” in response. The highlight of the performance was the solo of Oleksandr Tomash with accordion. The spectator was conquered by the mastership and charm of the real Odessa resident.
“National Tour” was opened by the “king of Odessa folklore” Felix Schinder who accompanied by two orchestras performed an groovy song “7.40”. Another real surprise for the audience was the performance of the Odessa City Orchestra of the composition “Vatra”, solo with sopilka was personally performed by the author of the famous work Vladimir Matviychuk. In this tour, NAOFI performed three more folk Ukrainian melodies: “Bukovinsky folk melodies”, “Zhaivoronok” (in English: “Lark”), “Ukrainian virtuosos”. Star guest Renata Stifel performed the Ukrainian folk song “Ya pidu v daleki hory”(in English: “I will go into the distant mountains”) accompanied by the Odessa City Orchestra. In addition, the Odessa residents presented the quodlibet from Leonid Utyosov’s songs to Kyivans. In the “World Hits” tour, the Odessa City Orchestra performed: “The Flight of the Bumblebee”, written by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov for his opera “The Tale of Tsar Saltan”, a quodlibet from French melodies “FRENCH TOUCH”, whre the solo performed Oleksandr Tomash on accordion, music from the song of Belgian author and performer Salvatore Adamo “Tombe la neige”. The Kyiv band “Fontaliza” gave the drive, performing “Rape Me” of NIRVANA with the accompaniment of the Odessa City Orchestra. Vlad Sytnyk, the winner of the “Slavic Bazaar 2017”, performed “Le temps des Cathedrales” from the musical “Notre-Dame de Paris”, accompanied by NAOFI and the Odessa City Orchestra. NAOFI within the tour “World Hits” shined on with performances of famous hits: “Another brick in the wall”, “Old banjo”, “Ghostbusters”. The most striking number of NAOFI was the performance of the soundtrack from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean Sea 2 – “He’s a Pirate”. It was a real pirate show on the stage of the October Palace – musicians, dressed in piracy, performed a bright solo, entered into a fight, and their leader – conductor Oleh Kuntyi struck forward with all the forces and it turned out well!
The hosts of shows “Battle of Orchestras” were Yurii Tkach and Khrystyna Ped. They maintained a fun festive atmosphere in the hall, joked, laughed, and admired the musicians along with the whole hall. In addition, the enchanting completion of the 14th “Battle of Orchestras” was performed by two orchestras “The Show Must Go On”. Star soloists presented on the stage, and the whole hall sang and danced unison with musicians. The show must go on and it must go on!
